Level 3 evacuation notice for residents near Waterman Complex fire

CROOK COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

The Crook County Sheriff's Office issued a Level 3 evacuation notice for residents near the Waterman Complex fire in Central Oregon.

The evacuation notice applies to 27 homes in the Marks Creek area on Highway 26 between the Mt. Bachelor Academy and Forest Service Road 2630. Anyone in that area is advised to evacuate immediately to the southwest toward Prineville.

A Level 3 notice means there is an immediate safety threat to people in the area.

Anyone who evacuates will not be allowed to return until conditions improve.

Firefighters said the fire continued to burn quickly overnight, and because of high temperatures, strong winds and stretched resources, there's still a lot of potential for growth.

Highway 26 is closed in the area of the fire, and a sheriff's office spokesperson said it will remain closed for the time being, due to damage to the roadway.

    The West Calcasieu Solid Waste Center will reopen Saturday, Nov. 18, according to the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury. The center, located at 2915 Post Oak Road in Sulphur, has been closed around a month for construction.
