A former captain with the Grundy County Sheriff's Department is facing charges for allegedly stealing handguns from an evidence room.

On Wednesday, 33-year-old Deke Matthew Stone turned himself in to TBI agents at the Grundy County Jail.

Stone had been under investigation for nearly a year.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation opened its case in August of 2013.

Investigators allege that Stone took three handguns from an evidence room at the sheriff's department weeks earlier.

Stone left his job before the TBI opened the case.

On Monday, the Grundy County Grand Jury returned indictments charging him with one count of official misconduct and one count of theft.

Stone was released from jail after posting $7,500 bond.
