BAYOU VISTA, LA (WAFB) -

A man is charged with attempted murder after a shooting left another man injured Tuesday afternoon.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office said Cody Thibodeaux, 23, of Bayou Vista, was booked on a charge of attempted second-degree murder and a warrant for failure to appear on a charge of criminal neglect of family. Deputies said Thibodeaux listed a motel as his address.

According to investigators, the shooting happened near the intersection of Polaris and Saturn roads in Bayou Vista around 1 p.m. Deputies reported the 30-year-old victim was found in a vehicle that had fled the scene. He had been shot in the torso and elbow. He was taken to the hospital, treated and released. His name was not given.

Traci Landry, a spokeswoman for SMPSO, said while deputies were setting up a perimeter near the Bayou Vista Community Center, Thibodeaux was found hiding in a metal building near the ball fields.

Detectives said they believe Thibodeaux got into an argument with a woman, which escalated and resulted in the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing.
