Many travelers have opted to take an alternate route on US 190 because the I-10 East on the Basin Bridge is currently closed. Traffic is moving progressively, but the movement slows to a crawl when passing through the small towns along the way. BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The I-10 Westbound is now open on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge, but Troopers say congestion was heavy. It is now clear. The I-10 East has also reopened at mile post 119. Traffic traveling eastbound was being diverted at the I-10/I-49 split, but now vehicles are allowed back on the interstate.

Many travelers have opted to take an alternate route on US 190 because the I-10 East on the Basin Bridge was closed earlier.  Traffic is moving progressively on US 190, but the movement slows to a crawl, when passing through the small towns along the way.

An accident involving hazardous phosphoric acid shut down the interstate around 8:00 am Saturday.  State Troopers say charges are pending based on the final outcome of the investigation has been reached.

    The parents of 7-year-old Gage Meche have filed suit against Michael Dugas. Dugas allegedly gave a gun to his 17-year-old son, who then allegedly left it where a first-grade sibling was able to get it and take it to school. Gage was accidentally shot when the gun fell out of Dugas' son's backpack and another student picked it up. Richard said Gage has endured four surgeries in 10 days.
