Sheriff: 13-year-old hits woman in face with baton while burglarizing her vehicle

A 13-year-old male from Hammond, LA was arrested and charged with striking a woman in the face with an expandable baton after being caught trying to burglarize a vehicle, according to deputies.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office reports that a woman walked outside to find a male inside of her vehicle, which was parked outside of her home. Reports say when the woman called for her husband, the 13-year-old got out of the vehicle and pulled the baton from his waistband and hit her in the face. He then reportedly yelled to another juvenile who was hiding behind the house. The second juvenile went to the vehicle and watched the incident.

The woman's husband and the teen were engaged in a brief struggle and the husband reported that his wife's wallet fell to the ground. The wallet was inside the vehicle. The husband then called the sheriff's office.

The teen was first taken to his house and then taken to the Florida Parish Detention Center where he was charged with burglary and aggravated battery. The second juvenile was released to a parent.
