In light of the article posted on BBC News official website, dated 18 June 2014: Drop minor convictions from criminal record checks, court rules, Edinburgh Private Detectives argue how a persons past might tell you a lot about them, and why background checks are a necessity.

(PRWEB UK) 11 July 2014

As reported by BBC News article dated 18 June 2014: Drop minor convictions from criminal record checks, court rules, the Supreme Court has ruled that all police cautions and minor convictions that were carried out are to remain undisclosed when criminal record checks are performed by various institutions. The Supreme Court judges have stated that doing the opposite would represent a violation of the human right legislation in England and Wales. This ruling will also influence those who applied to work in jobs that involve working with children or the vulnerable.

The BBC News article goes on to say that this ruling is supported by the Court of Appeal ruling where a job applicant was made to reveal police cautions he received when he was 11. The man was supported by human rights campaign group Liberty, which said that the judgment of the court was an injection of proportionality into the criminal records system. He was forced to reveal cautions from Greater Manchester Police, after he allegedly stole two bicycles. His records were checked when he applied to work at a football club part-time when he was 17, and on another occasion, when he applied for a university course in sports studies.

This article motivated Edinburgh Private Detectives (http://edinburgh-privatedetectives.co.uk/) to share information on their background checking services. While they support the Supreme Courts ruling, private detectives took the opportunity to argue the importance of background checks when it comes to an individuals personal life. Modern technology and the internet have enabled people to make acquaintances in a matter of seconds. However, people often misrepresent themselves online, exaggerating their profiles, and hiding their flaws, as well as potentially dangerous things from their past. Thats when background checks performed by Edinburgh Private Detectives help and provide the right information on someone. Also, concerned working parents can benefit from this service. Since most of them hire nannies to look after their young children while theyre at work, having private detectives perform a background check on the nanny can set their minds at ease, knowing that theyve hired the right person, without a chequered past.

Edinburgh Private Detective chief investigator Robert Wilson wanted to invite potential clients to call the agency and find out more about background checks. Mr. Wilson went on to say: Background checks are a useful tool that should be used by everyone if there is a need for it. People often think of it as an extreme measure, used only in crime novels and films. However, there is a place for it in everyday lives, and Edinburgh Private Detective recognizes that. Call us and find out how you can benefit from them.

Chief investigator Robert Wilson can be reached on this number: 0131 235 2014. Give him a call.
