Authorities are looking for a 21-year-old DeQuincy man on charges of attempted second-degree murder and domestic abuse battery.

DeQuincy Police Det. Tom Threet said Jon Dalton McCarty is wanted in connection with a June 13 assault and stabbing at a home in the 600 block of North Grand Avenue.

According to eye witnesses, McCarty punched his girlfriend and knocked her to the ground. Another man attempted to intervene and was stabbed in the chest by McCarty, Threet said.

Threet said authorities believe McCarty's family and friends are helping him avoid capture.

"If we can prove they knew he committed the felony and still harbored, concealed or aided him, they will be arrested," Threet said Friday in a news release.

McCarty, who is facing a $300,000 bond, has been described as a white male, 5-foot-8 and 132 pounds.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the DeQuincy Police Department at 337-786-4000.
