McNeese Women's Tennis Named 2014 ITA All-Academic Team

LAKE CHARLES - The McNeese women's tennis team has been named a 2014 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team.

Five players on the team have been named ITA Scholar-Athletes for their strong academic performance during the 2013-14 academic year: Vivien Borbely, Sara Castellano, Julia Kral, Anna Peacock and Diana Pirciu.

To qualify for the ITA All-Academic Team award, the team must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or above on a 4.00 scale. The Cowgirls had a 3.5 cumulative GPA. To earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, players had to meet the following criteria: be a varsity letter winner; have a GPA of at least 3.50 for the academic year; and have been enrolled at their present university for at least two semesters.

McNeese made tremendous strides in just its second season under head coach Danielle Steinberg. The squad finished its remarkable year with a 16-7 overall record and a 10-2 mark in league play.  The Cowgirls also finished with 15 or more wins for the first time since 2005 and for the sixth time in program history on the way to a semi-final appearance in the SLC Tournament. Four Cowgirls finished the year having scored 15 or more singles victories.
