A Sulphur city inspector has been arrested on a charge of malfeasance in office, authorities said.

Sulphur Police spokesman Mel Estess said 52-year-old Joseph Dean Simon was arrested Wednesday.

"Detectives were advised of an incident that occurred on June 29 involving Simon," Estess said Thursday in a news release. "An investigation was conducted and it was confirmed by detectives that the inspector had abused his power as a city employee."

Simon was released after posting a $10,000 bond.
