Unknown amounts of butane and pentane were released into the air at the Citgo refinery on Wednesday, emergency officials said.

Calcasieu Parish OSHEP Director Dick Gremillion said there was no danger to the public and the release was secured by 5:30 p.m.

Butane is an organic compound commonly used as a fuel. It is a highly flammable, colorless gas.

Pentane is an organic compound often used as a fuel or solvent, and its properties are similar to butane.
