Westlake High School football team spends June lifting weight as well as throwing against themselves, however, in July, the Rams get the chance to compete and stay active outdoors. Today, Westlake hosted a "7 on 7" against Hamilton Christian to give players a feel for the competition coming in the 2014 football season.
"When we get into July, we like to throw against other teams, we've been doing that for 3 years since I got here. Tim Sensley is a good friend of mine from Hamilton Christian, so they come here pretty regularly and we get to compete. Our kids, we get to see them in a different situation going against a different team with different schemes, and we get to see how they handle adversity. And we get to see a lot of good things, but we also see a lot of things where we need to improve. Later on this summer we're going to have Sulphur coming in here, and I think it's great for the kids." - Westlake Head Coach Shawn Demeritt
