AIKEN COUNTY, SC (WFXG) -

Aiken Public Safety officers are looking for a father and son wanted for fleeing from police.

Ernest Simpkins, 44, of Graniteville is accused of leading law enforcement officers on a chase and then fleeing on foot, according to the Aiken Department of Pulbic Safety. Jalen Simpkins, 21, also of Graniteville is accused of resisting arrest and fleeing from law enforcement.

Officers said Ernest Simpkins was following his ex-wife along a road, used his vehicle to block her in and then got into her vehicle. After he got out of her vehicle, he got back into his vehicle and continued to follow her to the parking lot of the Aiken County Sheriff's Office before fleeing from there.

A short time later, his vehicle was seen exiting the city limits and traveling on Jefferson Davis Highway, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety. Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but it continued into Graniteville. The driver then stopped and fled the traffic stop on foot.

The suspect's son, Jalen Simpkins, arrived at the scene of the traffic stop and told officers that he was the driver of the vehicle and that he had fled on foot, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety. But an officer believed Jalen Simpkins was just trying to distract the officers and aid his father in escaping.

Officers were arresting Jalen Simpkins for obstruction of justice when he began resisting, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety. He then pushed an officer to the ground, injuring him, and fled on foot.

Jalen Simpkins is wanted for obstruction of justice and resisting arrest with bodily injury. His father, Ernest Simpkins, is wanted for harassment, reckless driving and failure to stop for blue lights. Ernest Simpkins is also wanted by the Aiken County Sheriff's Office for violation of an order of protection.

Anyone with information related to the whereabouts of Ernest or Jalen Simpkins is asked to contact Crimestoppers of the Midlands at 1-888-CRIME-SC (1-888-274-6372). Callers will remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
