Sewage spills into Pflugerville creek

Posted: Updated:

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (AP) - Officials in the Central Texas city of Pflugerville say more than a million gallons of untreated sewage flowed into a creek after a power outage disabled a city wastewater treatment plant.

The Austin American-Statesman ( ) reports city officials expect the spill, which happened Sunday, to be cleaned up by Tuesday afternoon.

Pflugerville spokeswoman Terri Waggoner says the sewage bubbled out of a manhole near the treatment plant after a pump stopped working due to a power outage early Sunday.

Waggoner says the city hasn't determined what caused the outage.

City officials are advising residents on private drinking water supply wells located within a half-mile of the spill site or one mile downstream to use only water that has been distilled or at a rolling boil for at least one minute.
