A third person has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of a Rosepine man, authorities said.

Vernon Parish Sheriff Sam Craft said 28-year-old Matthew David Andrews, of New Llano, was arrested on a charge of accessory after the fact to second-degree murder.

Andrews' bond was set at $75,000.

James N. Stephens, 31, was reported missing in late March. On July 3, authorities discovered remains and said they believe it is Stephens.

Two Leesville residents, 24-year-old Jose Israel Ayala III and 22-year-old Cassandra Ward, have been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the case.

Craft said the remains have been sent to the LSU Forensic Anthropology and Computer Enhancement Services lab for identification.

It could take two to three months for identification, Craft said.
