GLENMORA (KPLC) - A Pitkin man is being charged with first-degree murder following an incident that took place Saturday in Glenmora.

Deputies with the Oakdale Police Department responded to a report of a gunshot victim in the 200 block of Freedom Road. Upon entering the residence, authorities found an elderly woman who had been shot. The woman, identified as 74-year-old Gennieve Ashworth, was taken to an area hospital for treatment, before being transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center, where she died Sunday.

The suspect in the shooting, identified as 52-year-old Rodney Thompson, had originally reported the incident and had originally been charged with attempted first-degree murder. Following the victim's death, his charges were upgraded.

Thompson was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center, where he remains without bond.

The investigation continues.
