CPSO offers free boater education course

CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) - The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office is conducting a free boater education course on July 15 at Henderson Implement in Lake Charles.

The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 2351 E. McNeese St. 

This course and any other NASBLA (National Association of State Boating Law Administrators) approved boater education courses are required by law to operate a motorboat over 10 horsepower. Boaters are also legally required to carry proof of class completion when navigating on state waters. 

The course is open to the public. Pre-registration is required, and seating is limited. To register, call Lexi at the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office at 491-3715.

    A local man received a phone call a week ago from a son he never knew about - and welcomed him with open arms. After years of searching, 23-year-old Devin Hutchinson says he's found his birth father. "I had that in the back of my mind ever since I was a kid," said Hutchinson. "My parents would say, 'You'll find him one day.' I looked all the time when I was a little kid."
