Horse rescued from sinkhole in Mt. Juliet

MOUNT JULIET, TN (WSMV) -

Crews worked for hours to rescue a horse trapped in a sinkhole in Wilson County.

The rescue happened on the 3900 block of Nonaville Road in Mt. Juliet on Thursday morning.

One of the horse's owners came out to ride Boomer on Thursday morning and couldn't find him. She realized something was wrong so she began searching for the horse and found him in a sinkhole.

"My daughter came out to ride him this morning and discovered him down in probably a 18, 20 foot sinkhole. He's never been around the sinkhole before so we haven't fenced it off, but something must have drove him down there," said owner Aaron Foster.

The Fosters do not own the property but board Boomer there.

A towing company with a wrecker showed up to help, and crews were able to tranquilize Boomer and hoist him up.

The veterinarian said Boomer has some scrapes from trying to jump out of the sinkhole but is very lucky to have survived.

Boomer is doing OK and was back up and walking around on Thursday morning. He has been moved to a barn to get some rest.

Watch Channel 4 News at 4:00 for an update on how Boomer is doing and an exclusive interview with the tow truck driver who helped with the rescue.
