Agoda.com, one of Asias leading hotel booking sites and part of Nasdaq-listed Priceline Group (Nasdaq:PCLN), has prepared a list of some of the best hotels in Glasgow, Scotland in the lead up to the 20th Commonwealth Games. These Games will see a record 6,500 athletes and officials from 71 countries and territories compete for gold in 17 thrilling events.

Held from 23 July-3 August, the Commonwealth Games are the third largest multi-sport event in the world After the Olympics and the Asian Games. Glasgow is the 18th city to host the Games. Started in 1930 as a show of solidarity for the countries of the British Commonwealth, the games have been held every four years since their founding, missing only 1942 and 1946 due to World War II.

Many of the events in competition, such as archery, weightlifting, and gymnastics, can also be seen in the Olympic Games. However, the Commonwealth Games also include sports popular chiefly in Commonwealth countries, such as lawn bowls, rugby sevens, and netball.

Glasgows existing sports infrastructure and commitment to building new ones for the games made it the perfect city to play host. Venues for the events include the 51,000 seat Ibrox Stadium for rugby, Strathclyde Country Park for the triathlon, the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre for wrestling, judo and boxing, and the custom-built Commonwealth Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, which will host badminton, track cycling, and the opening ceremonies.

Glasgow also offers visitors a fantastic vacation in its own right. One of the UKs most historic centers of commerce and tourism, it has been awarded official titles such as City of Culture, City of Architecture and Design, and Capital of Sport. Ancient churches, sprawling parks, and plenty of museums offer endless opportunities for leisure and exploration.

To address the influx of fans and spectators for the games, Agoda.com has prepared a special landing page highlighting some of Glasgows best hotels. Interest is high and the athletes are getting ready to give their all in the pursuit of excellence, so move quickly to secure a room for this fantastic event.
