LAFAYETTE, LA (WAFB) -

The Lafayette Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating the death of a 19-year-old female who was found on the side of the road Monday night.

Deputies have identified her as Valerie West of Duson, LA.

West was found near the 600 block of Gazette Road in Lafayette Parish around 10:30 p.m.

Officials say West was lying unconscious and unresponsive on the side of the road, but was not able to be revived.

The circumstances surrounding her death are considered suspicious and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of her death.

The incident is being considered a homicide.
