LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - Longview police are still searching for a man they say committed a string of crimes on Monday night in Longview.

First, police say Wesley Byron Smyth, 35, stole a Hummer from a used car dealership owned by his relative. As he drove off, he hit a light pole on Gilmer Rd. at Hwy 80. He fled, abandoned the vehicle, returned to the dealership, and stole a second Hummer.

Longview Police Officer Kristie Brian says he drove the car so dangerously that he damaged the axle, causing one wheel to fall off. He pulled into the parking lot at Sam Dunn on Cotton and Mosley, and looked for yet another vehicle to steal.

Brian says that Smyth spotted an older female in her car and threw her from the vehicle. An onlooker woman attempted to stop him, but the man drove away, dragging the onlooker behind the car.

The man who was dragged behind the third vehicle was not transported to the hospital, suffering only minor injuries, Brian said. She added that it is suspected that alcohol is a factor in this crime spree, but that cannot be confirmed until he is captured.

Police are still searching for the suspect, who is believed to be intoxicated and may be dangerous. He is believed to still be driving the third stolen vehicle - a 2012 silver Toyota Yaris with TX license plate CSL-8834. If anyone has information on the whereabouts of the suspect or the stolen vehicle they are asked to contact the Longview Police Department at 903-237-1170 or Gregg County Crimestoppers at 903-236-7867.
