Things are looking up for the Jennings police officer who shot last week.

The Jennings Police Department updated Sgt. Ricky Benoit's condition on their Facebook page.

"It is with great pleasure that we announce Sergeant Ricky Benoit has been moved from ICU and continues to improve on his road to recovery," the department said on its Facebook page.

The 52-year-old Benoit was shot in the neck Monday while responding to a domestic incident at a home on South Street in Jennings.

George Lowdins, of Jennings, was arrested in connection with the shooting. Lowdins, 30, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder of a police officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, resisting an officer by flight and domestic abuse battery.

Benoit is a 24-year veteran of the Jennings Police Department.
