CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

A Calcasieu Parish grand jury has indicted the man accused of fatally shooting Lake Charles pastor during a church service last year.

Thursday afternoon, a the grand jury indicted Woodrow Karey for second-degree murder.

"I was just so thankful and grateful and relieved that justice is being served," said Pastor Harris' widow, Frances Harris.

This comes after a grand jury indicted him for manslaughter in October.

"When the first verdict came we were disappointed, frustrated, and angry," said Frances Harris.

The family of Pastor Harris said instead of giving up they decided to go to work.

"We worked very close with whatever they asked us to do, we were very cooperative, including the 60 people that were there," said Pastor Harris' daughter, Talisha Harris.

Thursday, prosecutors presented new evidence to the grand jury and it handed down the new indictment.

"I was thankful, I thanked God for everything, for it coming back the way it did," said Talisha Harris.

And with a new charge the family said is fitting, they're now thanking those who helped along the way.

"I just really want to say I'm so thankful for the District Attorney Office and Sheriff's Office for all they've done and all the hard work to make this happen," said Frances Harris.

The Harris' also said the new charge could not have happened without the help from the grand jury and their lawyer.
