McNeese Softball Catches the Eye of Jennie Finch

McNeese Softball arguably had their best season in school history and it caught the attention of the Softball nation. That includes softball legend Jennie Finch, who now lives in Sulphur.

The Cowgirls were one of just a handful of teams in the country to win 40 games in a season, a school record, on the way to a Southland Regular season title.

McNeese posted a 3-1 record against SEC teams, including a victory over national runner up Alabama, LSU, and Texas A&M. On top of that, McNeese defeated a nationally ranked Alabama-Birmingham team early in the season and went up against several other ranked squads in midweek action throughout the year.

The Cowgirls' RPI was 39th in the nation, but they were still unable to secure a spot in the NCAA tournament.

Head Coach Mike Smith is now at Ole Miss, while assistant coach Joanna Hardin takes over the head job at McNeese. Finch is excited to see all that the program has accomplished.
