Police: Lake Charles man beat mentally disabled, elderly family member

A 23-year-old Lake Charles man is facing numerous charges after hitting a family member and resisting arrest, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said Chad L. Parker was arrested Monday morning on charges of simple battery of the infirmed, threatening a public official, resisting an officer (simple assault) and simple criminal damage to property over $500.

Myers said Parker has been accused of striking a mentally disabled, elderly family member numerous times. The victim was hit in the face, head and neck, Myers said.

"(During his arrest), Parker became irate, spitting at and verbally threatening deputies," Myers said. "Parker also kicked out the back window of the deputy's patrol car and breaking a $500 camera."

Bond was set at $170,000.
