LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

The Barbe baseball team reached another milestone this week.

Already considered one of the premier high school programs in the country, the Bucs were named national champions by two major organizations.

On Monday, Baseball America named the Bucs the high school team of the year. On Tuesday, they were named national champions by MaxPreps.

Barbe captured the Class 5A state title in May, the seventh state title in program history. The Bucs (39-2) also won 27 straight games to end the season.

KPLC's Seth Lewis will have more on the Bucs on later editions.
