The following is a news release from Calcasieu Parish Public Library:

Note: All branches of the Calcasieu Parish Public Library will be closed for the Independence Day holiday on Friday, July 4. Materials may be dropped off in the Book Drop boxes located at each branch. Items can be renewed online at www.calcasieulibrary.org and clicking on the My Account icon at the top of the page. Patrons can also renew items by calling 437-4153 or toll free at 1-800-240-0212, and following the directions you hear. A library card number and PIN number will be needed for both.

The following programs have been announced for various Calcasieu Parish Public Library locations for June 29-July 5:

Programs for adults:

Carnegie Memorial Library, 411 Pujo St., 721-7084

Bingo in the Mix:  10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 3.  Adults will play bingo using the names of cake pans that the library has to offer.  Registration is required.

Central Library, 301 W. Claude Street, 721-7116

Friends of the Library-Calcasieu Book Sale:  3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 29. The Friends of the Library-Calcasieu will have books for sale until 5:00 p.m.

Tech Tuesdays:  10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 1.  Library staff will assist those who want to learn more about their digital devices. 

Friends of the Library-Calcasieu Book Sale:  10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 1. The Friends of the Library-Calcasieu will have books for sale until 12:00 p.m.

Intro to Photo Editing:  3:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 2.  Attendees will learn about techniques they can use to add character to photos.  Registration is required.

Computer Basics:  9:30 a.m., Thursday, July 3.  Adults with little to no computer experience will learn the basics of using a computer.  Registration is required.

Friends of the Library-Calcasieu Book Sale:  4:00 p.m., Thursday, July 3. The Friends of the Library-Calcasieu will have books for sale until 6:00 p.m.

3D Thursdays:  5:00 p.m., Thursday, July 3.  Visit the Central Library Innovation Studio every Thursday from 5-7 to learn all about 3D printing and design.

There's an App for That:  10:00 a.m., Monday, June 30.  Adults will participate in a book talk, create art with CDs, and discuss Freegal, a resource available at your library for downloading free music.  Registration is required.

Upcycle Challenge-Jars to Vases:  10:00 a.m., Monday, June 30.  Adults will convert old jars into vases.  Registration is required.

Coffee and History:  9:30 a.m., Monday, June 30.  Patrons in the community will share photos and articles of history about the surrounding area.

Fraud Protection:  2:00 p.m., Monday, June 30.  Nancy Tower from the Capital One bank in Vinton will present a program on how to protect yourself from identity theft and fraud. 

Fontenot Memorial Book Discussion:  4:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 1.  Adults will discuss "The Frist Phone Call from Heaven" by Mitch Albom.

Painting Workshop:  10:00 a.m., Monday, June 30.  Melanie Pesson will lead attendees in creating a personal masterpiece.  Registration is required.

Book Discussion for Adults:  1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 1.  Adults will discuss "The Housekeeper and the Professor" by Yoko Ogawa.

Drawing with Gerry Wubben:  6:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 1.  McNeese art professor, Gerry Wubben, will guide attendees through basic drawing techniques.  Materials will be provided.  Registration is required.

Green Cleaning:  2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 3.  Attendees will learn easy to make cleaning concoctions that are inexpensive and good for the environment.

Beginning Knitting:  9:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 1.  Audrey Ortego will instruct beginning knitters on the basics of this craft.  Please bring your own supplies. 

Lunch and a Movie:  11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 3.  Adults will watch a movie and enjoy a light lunch.  Registration is required.

Teens Pay It Forward:  During branch hours throughout summer.  Teens can share ways that they have shared three random acts of kindness.  For ideas and supplies, check out the teen area at Central Library.

Tale Weavers Practice:  9:30 a.m., Monday, June 30.  Teens who love sharing children's stories will perform at various library branches.  Parents are asked to provide transportation to each event.  Registration is required.

Ice Volcanoes and Elephant Toothpaste:  2:00 p.m., Monday, June 30.  Teens will experiment with volcanoes and toothpaste.  Come dressed to make a mess!  Registration is required.

Duct Tape Art:  2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 2.  Participants will learn about other uses for this great tape!  Registration is required.

Take a Guess: During branch hours throughout summer.  Teens will pull a form and guess the pictures that have been enlarged.  Prizes will be given for those who turn them in.

Find the Germ!:  During branch hours throughout summer.  Hidden throughout the Children's Area are 3 stuffed toys that look like common germs.  If you find one, bring it to one of the children's librarians for a fun prize!

Hunting for Dinosaur Bones:  During branch hours throughout summer.  Hidden in the swimming pond by the palm trees are some dinosaur bones!  Find a bone and bring it to one of the children's librarians for a fun prize!

Scuba Diving:  10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 1.  Cher Walker from True Blue Watersports will talk about the fun of scuba diving and present a visual presentation.

Story Time:  2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 1. 

Fun with Fideaux presents – LPB/PBS Family Fun at the Library:  6:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 1.  The July Fun with Fideaux program will introduce the LPB/PBS Family Fun at the Library, a special corner designed to give children ages 2-8 an opportunity to strengthen their literacy skills through free and fun activities.  The Family Fun at the Library stations are sponsored by Louisiana Public Broadcasting, PBS Kids Readt to Learn, and the Verizon Foundation.

The Tortoise and His Hair:  10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 3.  Local author, Eloise Huber, will read from her book and dancers from Lady Leah LaFarque's School of Dance will perform.  A book sale and signing will follow.

Lego Building at Your Library:  1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 5.  Children will use their imaginations while building with Lego bricks.  The library will supply the Legos.
