JENNINGS, LA (KPLC) -

A judge on Monday sentenced former Jennings Police Chief Johnny Lassiter on two counts of malfeasance in office.

The Associated Press reported Lassiter received five years hard labor, but he also received credit for time served.

Lassiter, who was accused of stealing drugs and money from the department's evidence room, pleaded guilty to two counts of malfeasance in November 2013.

Lassiter was initially also charged with theft over $1,500, obstruction of justice and injuring public records, but those charges were dropped as part of a plea deal Lassiter made last year.
