LAKE CHARLES – Led by first-team selection Chayse Marion, three McNeese baseball players earned All-Louisiana honors by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association, the group announced late Saturday.

Joining Marion on the all-state list were second team selections senior Jackson Gooch and junior Andrew Guillotte.  Marion was chosen as a representative at first base for the first team while Gooch was named as an outfielder and Guillotte a second base representative on the second team.

The trio was also named to the All-Southland Conference first team as well as being selected to the SLC All-Academic teams.

The Cowboys tied with Southeastern Louisiana for most all-state selections among Southland Conference schools with three student-athletes each. Nicholls and Northwestern State each had one player selected to list.

Marion, a native of Reed Deer, Alberta, was the catalyst for McNeese this season, leading the squad in multiple team categories including batting average (.322), slugging percentage (.436) and walks (31) and had the second most home runs (4).  His efforts at first base, which included a .996 fielding percentage helped the senior earn all conference honors as well as all-academic in the process.  Marion recorded 21 multi-hit games and led the squad with 11 multi-RBI games.  He also batted a perfect 4-for-4 twice during the season against Stephen F. Austin and Southern University.

A native of Delta, B.C., Gooch began the season strong for the McNeese offense as he was named College Sports Madness SLC Player of the Week after submitting a .385 batting clip in three games against 2013 NCAA Regional participant Valparaiso.  He was second on the team in batting average (.319), slugging percentage (.419), runs scored (56), hits (73) and led the team in on-base percentage (.414) and RBI (41).  Gooch recorded 20 multi-hit and 10 multi-RBI games and was 12-for-14 in stolen bases.  Among his best performances of the season was a 3-for-5 outing with a double, two runs scored and four RBI against conference foe Oral Roberts.

A member of the 2014 Capital One All Academic District VI team, Guillotte led the squad with 78 hits, 57 runs scored and 20 stolen bases and recorded the most multi-hit games (25) among the squad.  His runs scored were the most among other members of the Southland Conference. After breaking into the all-time McNeese stolen bases list, the Moss Bluff native took over sole possession of fifth place with 56 stolen bags.  He also became the all-time leader with most at-bats in a season (247) while scoring the third highest batting average (.316) on the team.

Louisiana-Lafayette second baseman Jace Conrad was named the Hitter of the Year in the state, while LSU's Aaron Nola earned Pitcher of the Year honors for the second straight season after posting an 11-1 record and being named the 2014 SEC Pitcher of the Year. Tiger pitcher Jared Poche' was voted as Freshman of the Year, while Southeastern Louisiana outfielder Andrew Godbold was named the Newcomer of the Year for first-year Louisiana non-freshman players.

A total of seven coaches were nominated for Coach of the Year, which was awarded to Tony Robichaux of Louisiana-Lafayette. Also receiving votes were Nicholls State's Seth Thibodeaux, Southeastern Louisiana's Matt Riser and Jake Gautreau from Tulane.

The teams were selected on the basis of nominations made by the sports information and media relations contacts from the four-year baseball playing schools in the state. The list of nominations, based on stats and honors accumulated through the conference tournaments, were voted on by a panel of media and sports information representatives who are LSWA members.
