BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

State Police Superintendent Colonel Mike Edmonson has been selected to receive the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) Martha Irwin Award for Lifetime Achievement in Highway Safety.

The award is presented annually to a law enforcement official and a civilian representative demonstrating extraordinary efforts and progress in highway and traffic safety endeavors.

"It is a tremendous honor to be recognized among outstanding highway safety leaders from our law enforcement partners across the country," says Col. Edmonson. "Throughout my career and time as superintendent of the Louisiana State Police, my goal has been to reduce the number of tragic deaths on our highways through education, proactive enforcement, and infrastructural improvements."

Edmonson has been recognized for his involvement in every highway safety campaign in Louisiana during the past 34 years. He has also been the driving force behind the statewide development and implementation of the Traffic Incident Management system, a multi-disciplinary approach to keeping roadways safe.

Edmonson will be honored at the AAMVA conference in August in Dover, Delaware.
