The Concealed Handgun Permit Unit of the Louisiana State Police has begun accepting online applications for concealed weapons permits.

In order to apply, you must have a valid email account. Applicants will have the option to pay online, once their application has been reviewed for eligibility and completeness.

"The online application creates a more efficient process, and when properly utilized, applicants can expect to receive their permits quicker than when submitting the traditional paper application packets," said State Police in a news release.

First-time applicants will still be required to submit their fingerprints. This can be done electronically at the Louisiana State Police Headquarters in Baton Rouge. Fingerprints submitted on paper cards may take up to 21 days to process.
