LAKE CHARLES, LA -

The following is from a news release from the Savoie campaign:

Judge Kent Savoie officially announced his candidacy for the Third Circuit Court of Appeal Wednesday afternoon at the Lake Charles Civic Center in front of a large crowd of friends, family, and supporters.

The 14th Judicial District Court judge was introduced by State Senator Ronnie Johns who talked about Savoie's thirty-four years of legal experience, including thirteen as district judge, as well as his service in the United States Navy and his commitment to family and community.

"Kent Savoie is the same person today that he was thirteen years ago before he became a judge," said Former Deputy Clerk of Court Harry Summers.  "He doesn't just understand the law.  He uses common sense and shows respect for everyone in the courtroom."

The ceremony began with a prayer and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, a practice Judge Savoie is known for emphasizing in the courtroom.  When he spoke, Judge Savoie introduced his family, including his ninety-five year old mother, Grace Savoie, whom he said instilled the values and work ethic he carries with him today.

"It's been an honor to serve as district judge for the past thirteen years," said Savoie.  "I look forward to continuing that service and bringing my experience and our conservative values to the Court of Appeal."
