LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

One neighborhood had a blessed day on Friday as two new homes were blessed as part of the Project Build a Future Program.

The new houses are in the 2100 block of Elder Street in Lake Charles.

The program helps revitalize neighborhoods and provide affordable home ownership for residents. Through the program, families are provided down-payment assistance to make sure they can afford the homes, which they mortgage themselves.

"We're not deaf to the many cries of economic boom," said Nicole Miller of Project Build a Future. "We're really trying to put ourselves in a position to build more to respond. Because as the boom occurs, housing costs will rise. But we want to stay affordable and continue to redevelop this beautiful area of north Lake Charles."

The houses blessed Friday are the 25th and 26th houses as part of the program.
