NEW ORLEANS (WGNO/CNN) -

Funerals are different things to different people.

Some see it as a somber moment to reflect on the frailty of life. Others see it as a chance to honor and remember their loved one as they were, on their own terms.

One New Orleans family definitely falls into the latter category.

Miriam Marie "Mae-Mae" Burbank passed away June 1 at the age of 53.

According to WGNO, Burbank's family wanted to celebrate her life, with a nod to her party loving ways.

During the service, Burbank was propped up at a table with a cigarette in one hand and a glass of beer in the other. Her fingernails were painted black and gold, a homage to her beloved New Orleans Saints.

"When I walked in, I (felt) like I was in her house and I didn't hurt so much," said one person who attend the service. "Because it's more of her, and it's like she's not dead. It's not like a funeral. It's like she's just in the room with us."

A celebration of life service was set for Friday at the Charbonnet-Labat-Glapion Funeral Home in New Orleans, according to an obit posted at http://bit.ly/1mRM2IX.
