Death of Lake Arthur child ruled a homicide

Posted: Updated:

Autopsy results indicate a three year old lake Arthur boy was the victim of a homicide.

But, details are still minimal. The little boy died just a couple of days before what would have been his fourth birthday.  Acadia Sheriff's deputies say Keaghyn Parsons was visiting his step mother in Evangeline when he collapsed in her home.

Acadia spokesman Maxine Trahan says the boy was brought to Jennings American Legion Hospital where he died.

The body was brought to Calcasieu Coroner's office where autopsies are done for both Acadia and Jeff Davis Parishes.  They received autopsy results this week.

"This investigation has turned out to be a homicide. We have been actively investigating it, we will continue to investigate it.  It's just now it is being investigated as a homicide," said Trahan.

While the baby's death has been ruled a homicide, authorities are not yet saying what caused may have caused his death.

"At this point, being it's an active investigation, we're not going to reveal any of the details that investigators know.  We want to keep that part of their investigation," said Trahan.

She encourages any citizen who has information that might help investigators to contact their office.

"I do know that it's an active investigation. By all means, if there's someone who knows something about the child, about the family life, contact our office.  All the information would help our investigators to bring this case to a conclusion and that's the outcome that we want.  We want to find out who's responsible for this and bring this case to a close," said Trahan.

The child was a resident of Lake Arthur, where friends and relatives held a balloon release on what would have been Keaghyn's  fourth birthday. Relatives say he brought much joy during his short life.

His great aunt, Mary Whitehouse, said this, at last month's balloon launch. "He loved everyone he met, and everyone that met him, just adored him, they just fell in love with him instantly.," said Whitehouse.

And now his death brings much sorrow.

"I wake up every morning thinking this really can't be happening, and thinking how much we're all gonna miss him," said Whitehouse.

Keaghyn's funeral was held May 24th in Lake Arthur.
