CARLYSS, LA (KPLC) -

At a Monday meeting, the West Calcasieu Airport Authority approved a lease for the Moss Lake Village worker housing facility in Carlyss. The issue will go before the Calcasieu Parish Planning and Zoning Board on June 17 for a zoning exception.

After the airport board's attorney, Oliver Jackson Schrumpf, had expressed concern that public comments should not have been cut off while the lease for the facility was approved, the board agreed last week to hear public comments and to take another vote on the lease.

The board rescinded its previous approval of the lease before hearing comments on Monday. The board then approved a revised version of the lease. The board removed the names of all contractors from the lease.

At the meeting, employee village opponent Barry Badon raised the issue of whether board chairman Dalton Langford has a conflict of interest, due to his ownership of an aviation company. Badon urged the board to seek an opinion from the attorney general.

Badon said he is not attacking Langford's integrity and that he believes him to be an upstanding citizen.

The board took no action on the issue of seeking the opinion of the attorney general, and Badon said he will file a complaint with the ethics board.
