BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

East Baton Rouge Sheriff's deputies have arrested a man and a juvenile on multiple counts of attempted first degree murder. The arrests were made after the suspects led police on a high-speed chase and flipped their car.

Vernell Lockett, 18, has been charged with five counts of attempted first degree and illegal use of a weapon.  A 16-year-old was also charged with five counts of attempted murder, illegal use of a weapon, and aggravated flight from the officer.

It all started on Sunday after deputies responded to a shooting in the 5800 block of Denova Street. Officials say a group of men and women were gathered outside a residence when the two men stopped their vehicle in the roadway.  The men began firing into the crowd after two of the people approached the vehicle to speak to them.

Three adults were struck, but officials say their injuries are not lifethreatening. Two were transported to a hospital and one was treated at the scene.

Then early Monday morning deputies spotted the suspect's vehicle near the intersection of Siegen lane and Rieger Road. When deputies attempted to stop them, the chase began.  The vehicle ultimately crashed in the parking in the 10000 block of Sam Rushing Road.

Deputies say they found two guns on the ground near the vehicle. Officials say Lockett admitted that he had shot the gun from the passenger side of the vehicle, but he said he wasn't trying to hit anyone.

The man and the juvenile were taken into custody.

Tonight, the rain will come to an end. Particularly after midnight. There will be a few showers before then that could bring heavy rain. By first thing Monday morning, there should not be any more rain around us. Rain chances are up to 60% tonight, but will fall after midnight. Temperatures will also be cooler. Some places may see the lower 50s! That would be much closer to where we should be this time of the year.
