LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Saturday afternoon Lufkin Police were called to the 200 block of Percy Simond for a disturbance.  According to Sergeant Mike Shurely, the disturbance was between 33-year-old Lester Ray Murphy Jr. and 20-year-old Shynecia Moreland.

"Murphy hit Moreland in the mouth and began pulling her hair. She was able to get free and went and got a knife out of the kitchen," Shurley said.

At that point Moreland allegedly swung the knife, cutting Murphy on his left arm. Murphy then allegedly grabbed a chair and broke Moreland's car windows.

Murphy told police, that the altercation started after Moreland shut the door on his hands.  He then pushed her off of him and that's when she grabbed the knife. Both Murphy and Moreland were arrested and charged with aggravated assault of a deadly weapon.  Moreland was also charged with Misdemeanor Criminal Mischief after officers found a small amount of marijuana in her home. Both individuals were transported to the Angelina County Jail.
