Athens police looking for suspects in deadly shooting

ATHENS, TX (KLTV) - Athens police received a call 1:00 pm Sunday afternoon about a shooting in the 700 block of Robbins Road. 23-year-old Cedrick Alvin Collins. of Malakoff, was found on the ground beside his vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

A witness reported hearing gunshots and seeing two suspects fleeing the scene on foot. Both suspects appeared to be black males, one with a light skin tone and the other with a darker skin tone. It is not known if the two suspects fleeing the scene are directly related to the shooting, but detectives do believe that the suspects were known by Collins.

Collins was taken to East Texas Medical Center in Athens where he died a short time later. His body was sent for an autopsy.

Athens police detectives is being assisted by the Henderson County District Attorney’s Office and the Texas Rangers in the investigation. Collins’ vehicle and its contents are being processed for evidence.
