Junior pitcher Chris Sadberry pitched eight shut-out innings and Johnny Drozd closed the door with a perfect ninth, as the Red Raiders blanked College of Charleston in Game 1 of the Super Regionals, 1-0.
Sadberry became the latest Tech starter to dominate during this incredible postseason run, striking out a career-high eight batters while scattering just four hits through a season-high eight innings of work. The Red Raider pitching staff lowered its team ERA to 0.78 in the NCAA's.
The lone run came in the thirdinning when Tyler Neslony laced a two-out triple to right that scored Stephen Smith.
That proved to be all the offense Texas Tech needed today as Sadberry out-dueled Charleston starter Taylor Clarke, who pitched all nine for the Cougars, allowing just the one run.
Texas Tech is now one win from advancing to the College World Series. Game 2 is tomorrow at 2 p.m. CT at Dan Law Field.
