Coworkers remember Rachel Guzman

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Less than 24 hours after Rachel Guzman was found in Big Spring, friends and co-workers pay their respects to the woman they loved.

Evelyn Marez was a previous coworker of Guzman's, who knew her from her time working for Dr. Subhash Batra.

"There's always going to be a void in this office for Rachel," Marez said, "and our prayers are going toward her family. She's going to be missed. She touched so many patients' lives, I mean she went out of her way to help."

Many of those patients called Dr. Batra's on Thursday and shared their memories of Guzman.

"We got calls this morning just wanting to know was that really Rachel," said fellow coworker Rochelle Childrers. "And they asked and we said yes, and it was like I can't believe it. She's very helpful, she's very on top of her work, she always got back with them to check, and even outside of work, she always said hello to them. She was a person that if she had something set in her mind that she wanted to do, she was going to do it, and she was a very good achiever."

Guzman left Dr. Batra's office in January to work at Covenant, but she remained close to her former coworkers.

"She was always helping out the girls transitioning whenever she was leaving," Marez said. "She was just really sweet and really helpful, she lived for her grandbabies - that's all she talked about were her grand babies."

All of her coworkers said they felt like something was missing.

"We laughed today," said coworker Chelsea Moreno, "but not like we usually are, and the doctor was kind of off today."

FIRST ALERT FORECAST: First day of Fall is a hot one, with a few pop up showers possible

A few showers possible this afternoonA few showers possible this afternoon

For today, we will have a few small pop up showers in the afternoon. Rain chances are at only 20%, so not everyone will see rain. Any rain we do get, will not last long. There will be plenty of passing clouds, but that won’t stop the heat. Highs today will be in the low 90s, with heat indices in the mid to upper 90s! Even though fall is officially starting today, it certainly will not feel like it! By tonight, we will keep the rain chances low as all showers come to an end.

Could there be another RV park coming to Calcasieu Parish?  That was the big question at Thursday night's police jury meeting.  One by one, residents stood up voicing their opposition to another RV park.  "Would you guys want to look out your back door with your family and see an RV park," said resident Tina Knippers. The proposed RV park would be just off of Highway 108 West near Choupique Road in Sulphur.  Applicant Wendell Thibodeaux says he ...
