BEAUREGARD PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

A settlement has been reached in a lawsuit against the Beauregard Water Works District 3.

The RESTORE environmental group last year sued the district, which serves some 19,000 customers.

The suit claimed there was too much sodium in the water, a violation of the Safe Drinking Water Act.

Under the settlement, the water district admits to some one-time violations but said they occurred in the past and have been remedied.

The settlement also requires an independent audit of the district's operations to determine compliance to the act.

The auditor will also have the opportunity to make suggestions for improvement to district's operations.
