LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

A 33-year-old Lake Charles man died Tuesday night in a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Enterprise Boulevard and 3rd Street, city police said.

Deputy Chief Mark Kraus said Clifton Harmon Jr. died at the scene.

"Mr. Harmon's vehicle was headed north on Enterprise Boulevard at a high rate of speed," Kraus said Wednesday in a news release. "For unknown reasons, (he) lost control and collided with a concrete curb and hit a tree that was in a median."

A witness said he saw Harmon speed down Enterprise Boulevard and run a traffic light at Enterprise and 7th Street, Kraus said.

Kraus said a toxicology report is pending and that prior to the fatal crash, Harmon's vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run incident near the intersection of Enterprise Boulevard and 12th Street.
