Hotly debated workers' village to be discussed today

Good Tuesday morning to you!  Britney Glaser here with a look at what's in store on today's Sunrise:

*The hotly debated workers' village at Southland Executive Airport is up for discussion at the West Calcasieu Airport Managing Board meeting today.  We'll tell you what's in store and where this plan goes next with the zoning board.

*An exhibit in honor of the late Beauregard Parish historian, Velmer Smith, will be unveiled this summer in DeRidder.  Find out how you can check it out.

*Republican senators are introducing a bill that would allow U.S. vets to seek medical appointments outside the VA hospital system.  It's called the "Veterans Choice Act."  Does it have a chance of becoming law?  We'll dive deeper into this issue.

*The 2014 legislative session has ended quietly.  The majority of the big issues were handled weeks ago, but there was a last-minute rush to get some bills passed through.

*The Calcasieu Kennel Club is hosting its annual dog show this Thursday through Sunday at the Lake Charles Civic Center.  This free event is family-friendly!  We'll have a live interview with an organizer about what's in store.

Make it a Sunrise day!

We are in the middle of August, and therefore the dog days of summer. That means hot temperatures in the afternoon. For the next few days, afternoon temperatures will be at least 91 degrees. Heat indices could reach up to 110 degrees. That is reaching dangerous levels, especially when spending an extended time outdoors.  After just a few minutes being outside and exposed in the sun, or even in the shade, the heat can cause illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
