LEESVILLE, LA (KPLC) -

Deputies with the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a shooting at Methodist Landing Park in Leesville at about 12:25 a.m. on Monday.

According to witnesses at the scene, 34-year-old Rodney McGlothlin of Anacoco fired multiple shots from a 12-gauge shotgun at Ernest Phaneuf III.

Phaneuf was shot in the chest and was transported to Byrd Regional Hospital, where authorities say he is listed as being in a stable condition.

Witnesses say that Phaneuf returned fire at McGlothlin but did not injure him.

"McGlothlin had left the scene upon the arrival of deputies but was apprehended a short time later at a nearby residence," said Sheriff Sam Craft in a news release.

McGlothlin was booked into the Vernon Parish Jail on one count of Attempted Second-Degree Murder. Bond is pending in the case.

The investigation continues.
