DUPLESSIS, LA (WAFB) -

Authorities are investigating the death of a man who was found underneath his truck in the flooded parking lot at his job Wednesday afternoon.

They identified the victim as Danny Deville, 56, of Melville.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office reported it happened at a business on Babin Road in Duplessis.

Officials said the Deville's death appeared to be an accident and was possibly caused by weather conditions.

"Water was flowing swiftly across the parking lot and the water was probably 12 to 18 inches deep," said Chief Deputy Tony Bacala with APSO. "There is a strong likelihood the deceased man slipped, fell and was swept under the vehicle, but it is too early in the investigation to make a definitive conclusion."

Deputies said because of the flooding in the area, employees were allowed to go home around 11 a.m. However, a supervisor noticed one employee's vehicle was still in the parking lot just before 5 p.m.

Investigators said the supervisor went to check why the truck was still there and as he got closer he saw Deville underneath it. They added the supervisor pulled Deville from under the pickup and called the sheriff's office when the victim didn't respond.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
