LC Firefighters Union & City closer to agreement

Posted: Updated:
LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

They've been working without a contract for more than two years, but the Lake Charles Firefighters Union 561 is one step closer to an agreement with the City of Lake Charles.

Within the last three months there have been new negotiations between the two parties for a memorandum of understanding, which would address many of the firefighters' concerns, with the exception of pay and benefits.

Union members accepted entering into a memorandum of understanding a few weeks ago, but still have some concerns. Union officials met with Mayor Randy Roach and staff on Tuesday to iron out the details.

"We will now inform our members of the answers we received today and hopefully we can reach an agreement in the next few days and put this all behind us and move forward together," said Chief Chris Carroll, Lake Charles Firefighters Union representative.

Carroll told the Lake Charles City Council they expect to reach a final agreement within the next few days.

The agreement would be for one year.
