LCPD 2013 Annual Crime Report

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

Overall crime for 2013 was up by 4%, according to the Lake Charles Police Annual Crime Report. During 2013, there were 10,353 investigations of either felonious or misdemeanor offenses.

The crimes break down in several categories.

Crimes Against Persons: (murder, rape, robbery, and assault and battery)
Last year, there were 1,579 crimes committed against persons. This total was 2.1% higher than the previous year's as there were 33 more offenses.

Crimes Against Property: (burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, arson)
Also last year, crimes against property revealed an increase as there were 443 more property crimes than in the previous year. This revealed a 8.6% increase.

Other Criminal Offenses: (criminal damage, disturbing the peace, drug offenses, DWI, etc.)
The overall crimes in this classification revealed a decrease last year as 75 fewer offenses were reported than in the previous year's total. This resulted in a 2.3% decrease in this category.

In terms of solving and clearing the cases this is how the numbers break down:

Overall Criminal Offenses:
Of the 10,353 overall criminal offenses investigated last year, 56.2% (5,815 cases cleared) were classified as solved. This figure exceeded the previous year's solvent rate of 53%.

Crimes Against Persons:
Of the 1,579 crimes against persons investigated last year, 84.9% were classified as solved. This figure was slightly below the previous year's solvent rate of 86%.

Crimes Against Property:
Of the 15,583 crimes against property investigated last year, 40.2% were classified as solved. This figure exceeded the previous year's solvent rate of 33%.

Other Criminal Offenses:
Of the 3,191 other criminal offenses investigated last year, 69.8% were classified as solved. This figure exceeded the previous year's solvent rate of 68%.

Arrests:
During last year, there were 3,152 arrests, an increase of 3.9% from the previous year. Of these arrests, 2,901 were adults and 251 were juveniles.

Calls For Service:
Officers responded to 117,676 calls for service last year, an 8.8% increase from the previous year's total of 108,201.

Administrative Investigations:
The Professional Standards Division conducted 67 investigations last year, a 28% decrease from the previous year's total of 93.
