Several days of rain ahead for Southwest Louisiana

Our dry stretch of weather is coming to an end today as rain approaches late morning and into the afternoon with today being the first in what will be a series of wet days ahead.

Some areas could receive as much as 3-5 inches of rain by the weekend with localized higher amounts.

This is all being driven by a cut-off low pressure system in the upper levels of the atmosphere spinning over north Texas. Tropical moisture will continue feeding into this low, spawning several rounds of showers and storms between now and the weekend, some of which could produce heavy rain and strong winds.

There is a slight chance of severe weather Tuesday with the primary threats being damaging wind gusts.

The KPLC 7 Stormteam will keep you updated on any severe watches and warnings that could develop over the course of the next few days.

In preparation of the upcoming heavy rain over the next few days, a River Flood Watch has been issued for the Calcasieu River at Old Town Bay. A Flood Watch means conditions are favorable for flooding of lying areas and along rivers and streams.

Remember to take it easy on the roads as it has been a while since we have had any heavy rain.
