A 33-year-old Jennings man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for operating a steroid distribution ring.

On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Patricia Minaldi sentenced Christopher Paul Benoit on charges of conspiring to unlawfully import and possess with intent to distribute anabolic steroids. Benoit was also given three years supervised probation and ordered to pay a $2,000 fine.

Benoit must surrender to authorities by 4 p.m. June 12.

Benoit pleaded guilty to the charges in late January.
