Lafayette, LA (KPLC) -

A 27-year-old Erath woman has been sentenced to a year in prison and two years probation after being convicted of wire fraud.

Federal prosecutor Stephanie A. Finley said Hue Bui was a waitress at Walk-On's Bistreaux and Bar in Lafayette from February 2012 to August 2012 and stole over $30,000.

Bui, who pleaded guilty Jan. 22, was sentenced Friday and was ordered to pay $30,222 in restitution to Walk-On's.

"She devised a scheme using $25 pre-paid gift cards that she bought herself," Finley said Friday in a news release. "During her shift, she would create a fake food or beverage order costing approximately $25, pay for the fake order with the gift card, write in a gratuity and collect the tips.

"When the credit card companies realized the $25 limit was exceeded, they charged the transactions back to Walk-On's."
